Frequently Asked QuestionsHOW MUCH WILL COUNSELLING COST ME?
For successful counselling, it is important that you feel comfortable with a counsellor. To this end, our first meeting will be a Consultation, where you can ask any questions you may have before you decide to commence counselling and I can also see if I am able to help you.
My fee for a Consultation is £25 for student counsellors, £35 for individuals and £40 for couples. However, if you decide to book a further session, I offer a reduced fee for your first session, which is £10 for student counsellors, £15 for individuals and £20 for couples.
Thereafter, my hourly fee is £25 for student counsellors, £35 for individuals and £40 for couples. In certain circumstances, I will consider offering a concession, which can be discussed during the Consultation.
Fees are payable one session in advance (the first payment due on our first meeting).
WHAT ABOUT CANCELLATIONS?
I ask for 24 hours notice of cancellation, otherwise I may charge the full session fee. Obviously, there may be times when this is not possible, which will be taken into consideration.
WHEN CAN I COME FOR SESSIONS?
My working hours are:- Monday - Friday - 8 a.m. until 8.30 p.m. Saturday - 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.
HOW LONG IS A SESSION?
A counselling session lasts for approximately one hour.
HOW MANY SESSIONS WILL I NEED?
This is something only you will know and you will be in charge of when you feel you want to stop.
It is important to me that you gain the most from your sessions, so I will be checking out how things are going for you on a regular basis.
IS EVERYTHING CONFIDENTIAL?
In accordance with the British Association of Counselling & Psychotherapy Code of Ethics, I will offer you the highest possible level of confidentiality, in order to respect your privacy and create the trust necessary for counselling. This means that anything you say to me is confidential and no information will be given to any other person without your permission.
However, there are exceptions to this policy and they are if I feel you to be at risk of causing harm to yourself or others or I am summoned by a Court of Law. These exceptions apply to all counselling agencies and counsellors and I will be happy to provide further information if required.
WHAT ABOUT EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES?
I am committed to equal opportunities, aiming to ensure that each client is treated as unique and will be seen regardless of age, gender, culture, disability, background or sexuality.
AFTER THE CONSULTATION DO I HAVE TO BOOK ANOTHER SESSION?
No. You are under no obligation to do so.
WHAT IF THERE ARE THINGS THAT I FIND HARD TO TALK ABOUT?
I will not push you into talking about anything you do not want to - this will take time and trust. I am here to support you in your journey.
I am not here to judge you but to help you to understand yourself and explore how your life can be satisfying, by taking responsiblity for your own thoughts, feelings and behaviour. If you change anything at all about yourself, it will be because you want to, not because I think you ought to.
If you get upset during a session that is ok with me. Tears are a way of expressing emotion and it is better to cry outwardly than inwardly.
WHAT IS SUPERVISION?
As do all counsellors, I have ongoing formal consultative support for my work in accordance with professional requirements. This is so that I can regularly monitor and review my work to maintain good practice. During these meetings I will only be discussing what my thoughts were in our sessions, therefore maintaining client confidentiality.
ARE YOU INSURED?
I am covered by Professional Indemnity Insurance and have had an Enhanced Police Check.
DO YOU HAVE FACILITIES FOR THE DISABLED?
My room is on the ground floor with a toilet nearby.
